SAVE HISTON ROAD PLAYGROUND!!Histon Road Recreation GroundHill’s Development, in partnership with Cambridge City Council, and under a new name: Cambridge Investment Partnership (CIP), are due to develop 137- 143 Histon Road into 70 dwellings, the majority of which are high-end, two storey houses.This development does not allocate green space, so in order for it to receive planning approval they propose to use the amenity park land of Histon Road Recreation Ground.This entails creating two new access points leading directly into and through the enclosed playground of the Histon Road Recreation ground.The main issue with this development of the access points, is that the development itself, being 70 houses, should provide its own green space. But because it wants to maximise its own profits, it is borrowing the green space from the park and using that in its planning application. This park is one of Cambridge protected green spaces, and it shouldn’t be abused like this.A present, we can put our children in that area and know that they can wander around it without the threat of falling into the way of traffic, which is what would happen if there was access points going onto the new development roads.It is of great concern that our public land is being handed over to private developers and aided by our own council.
